등뼈에 해당하는 책등은 낱장의 종이를 하나로 엮어 책 전체를 단단히 지탱하며, 그 굴곡은 테이블 하단에 무늬로 드러난다.
테이블 하단에는 수직의 철제 파이프와 수평의 종이 파이프가 교차하는데, 이때 교차점에 배치된 원고는 상판 아래에서 책등을 통해 가장 먼저 독자의 시선에 닿는다.
